Since 1967, I have been creating images of the outdoors here in Ocean Springs.

While serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, I bought my first camera and began a decades-long love affair with photography, but ultimately business and family life would take me away from the camera for many years, until, in 1991, I bought a used camera at a flea market and began to create images again. 

Self-taught, I continue to learn each time I pick up a camera. Considering myself more a photographic artist than simply a photographer, I strive for many of the images to appear as paintings. When someone views my work and asks “Is that a photograph or a painting?”, I know I have succeeded. 

As I prepare to create a new image, I am always mindful of a quote from legendary Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter Camille Pisarro: “Blessed are those who see beautiful things in humble places where others see nothing.” 

My images have been used in a variety of local and regional publications and calendars. The images adorn the walls of homes, institutions and offices in locations along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and across the country. 

My work has been honored many times, most recently when I was presented the Duncan & Shannon Moran Memorial Award during the Ocean Springs Art Association’s Partake Art Show earlier this year. Other recent awards include “Exceptional Color Photograph” from the Singing River Art Association during its Spring Show in 2018; and the Reynolds Global Green Award for “Best Black and White Photograph” during the OSAA’s Partake Art Show in 2018.
