“To me, a painting is not simply a representation of a thing or things. A painting is about the four edges of the painting surface and how one chooses to lay down the paint within those constraints.”
Pat is a Biloxi native and painter who has shown her work on the coast and throughout Mississippi for many years,. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and later went on to serve as an art teacher in the Biloxi Public Schools. In addition she has taught classes at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and William Carey University.
Pat is a member of the OceanSprings Art Association where she has won the Award of Exceptional Merit several times in the OSAA annual show. She is also a long time member of the Mississippi Art Colony where her work has been selected numerous times to participate in the traveling exhibit. Furthermore Pat is a member of the National Women in the Arts, the South Mississippi Art League, and the Eastern Shore Art Association in Fairhope, Alabama. She is an avid learner and continues to study in many art workshops.
Pat states that on examining her current paintings the viewer hopefully will be able to see her love of patterns and colors, She says, “When I look at the subject of a painting I break it down to shapes, colors and patterns and paint until I am satisfied wit the painting as a whole. I am inspired by the beauty in nature and am drawn to the elements there, flowers in particular. I am always looking and seeing my next painting or series of paintings. I don’t plan to ever stop learning.”
